Iran Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Coach: We Aim for a Medal at the 2026 Para-Asian Games in Nagoya

Azadeh Sadat Moeini expressed hope that the Iranian women’s national wheelchair basketball team will win a medal at the 2026 Para-Asian Games in Nagoya.

According to the Public Relations office of the Federation, the team has just completed their second training camp and will resume training within the next two weeks. These preparations target the Para-Asian Games in Nagoya.

Moeini said in an exclusive interview with Tehran Times that the third training camp is scheduled from August 6 to 15, 2025. Before Nagoya, the team will compete in the 2025 IWBF Asia-Oceania Championship held in Thailand this November. She described that championship as a valuable opportunity to prepare for Nagoya.

The team is currently in good condition, with new players added to the roster whom the coaching staff is working hard to bring up to competitive performance levels.

In the previous Para-Asian Games in Hangzhou, Iran’s women finished fourth. Moeini hopes to improve on that and reach the podium in Nagoya, emphasizing the team’s positive progress and determination.

Regarding qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games, Moeini stated that their main efforts toward Paralympic qualification will begin after Nagoya. Although they missed an earlier opportunity to qualify, they will compete in the 2026 World Championships as the key event to earn a berth.

The Iranian women’s wheelchair basketball team is highly motivated to make a historic appearance in Nagoya and aim for their first Para-Asian Games medal.
