According to the Public Relations office of the Veterans and Disabled Sports Federation, a meeting was held between officials of the Veterans and Disabled Sports Federation and the Basketball Federation aimed at increasing inter-federation collaboration to develop wheelchair basketball.
Dr. Koohpayezadeh, President of the Veterans and Disabled Sports Federation, stated that they hope to leverage joint cooperation to benefit from the participation of professional basketball league clubs in supporting men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball club teams. The goal is to facilitate progress in developing wheelchair basketball in both five-a-side and three-a-side formats.
The Federation President expressed optimism that by utilizing the experience and infrastructure of the Basketball Federation, league and club competitions can be organized with the support of financial sponsors within the Veterans and Disabled Sports sector.
Following this, Davari, President of the Basketball Federation, welcomed the cooperation, noting plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Veterans and Disabled Sports Federation to support wheelchair basketball development. He added that discussions will be held in the Basketball League Organization meetings with team officials about club ownership in wheelchair basketball. He is hopeful that the wheelchair basketball league will expand and thrive with increased participation compared to the past.
