Dr. Donyamali: Sports and Youth Complexes of the Provinces Must Fully Support Para-Athletics Athletes

A specialized meeting of the Federation was held at the Ministry of Sports and Youth to prepare for the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.

According to the Public Relations of the Federation of Sports for the Disabled and Injured and citing the Ministry of Sports and Youth news agency, the Specialized Oversight Commission on Federation and Sports Association Performance convened an expert session this morning, Tuesday, July 14, 2025 (24 Tir 1404), chaired by Dr. Ahmad Donyamali, Minister of Sports and Youth, to discuss the federation’s participation in the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh 2025.

The first part of the meeting focused on the status of para-athletics and para-powerlifting, the only two disciplines for athletes with disabilities contested in this edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games. The organizing committee allocated 12 quota places in para-athletics (6 men and 6 women) and 4 in para-powerlifting (2 men and 2 women) for participating countries. Athletes can earn their spots based on qualifying records.

Dr. KoohpayeZadeh, federation president, along with heads of the para-powerlifting and para-athletics associations, presented a comprehensive report on the current conditions of athletes in these sports. It was concluded that a quality delegation will be sent, prioritizing athletes with the best medal prospects. Final athlete selections have not yet been made due to the remaining preparation time.

The Minister emphasized that the federation must swiftly end the decentralized training camps for the national para-athletics team so that with about three and a half months left before the event, the athletes can train with greater cohesion.

Dr. Donyamali also ordered that the specialized Aftehab Enghelab Athletics Stadium be dedicated to para-athletics training to ensure uninterrupted preparation for the Riyadh Islamic Solidarity Games.

Furthermore, he noted that sports complexes under the provincial sports and youth departments must also fully allocate their capacities to support the para-athletics athletes.
