Mahmoudi: Our Goal is Reducing the Gap in Access to Facilities Between Olympic and Paralympic Sports

According to the Public Relations of the Federation, Mr. Mahmoudi, representative and head of the Disabled and Veteran Sports Committee of the Parliament’s Sports Faction, stated: “I congratulate the arrival of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. In various meetings, the importance of sports in this field and attention to this group in all dimensions—especially for younger disabled individuals—is emphasized. The country must provide support and incentive packages for their participation in various activities with special planning.”

He continued: “We complain about the deep gap in attention and facilities between Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Sports access for non-disabled individuals exceeds that for disabled people. While good actions have been taken for disabled sports compared to the past, the growth rate of facilities and benefits favors Olympic athletes more than Paralympians.”

The Parliament representative noted: “For example, contracts for a soccer player or non-soccer athlete are incomparable to Paralympic athletes. Policymaking bodies for budgets and country officials lack concern, and even if sympathetic, they haven’t operationalized activities. Opportunities must be equally distributed, and we are working on our started path to reduce the gap and attract minimums for disabled and veteran sports.”

Mr. Mahmoudi added: “Good actions are underway, and we hope officials’ special attention includes this sports sector. We must be a media outlet reflecting these athletes’ successes and showcase the sport’s attractions using capacities so our champions are seen better than before.”
