Dr. Jalil Koohpaye-Zadeh, president of the Federation , emphasized comprehensive support for the national men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams as they set out on the path to glory aiming for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, starting with the Asia-Oceania Championships in Thailand.
During the farewell ceremony for the teams held beside the tomb of unknown martyrs at the federation, Dr. Koohpaye-Zadeh expressed hope for the success of the national athletes and highlighted that the upcoming championship is the starting point of a three-year preparation cycle leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
Detailed programming and coordinated support will be provided in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the National Paralympic Committee to prepare the athletes for future competitions, aiming to bring more honors to Iran.
Dr. KoohpayeZadeh also noted the development of 3×3 wheelchair basketball alongside traditional 5×5 basketball, announcing that youth 3×3 wheelchair basketball teams will participate for the first time in the Asian Youth Para Games in the UAE in December. A dedicated 3×3 basketball court will soon be established at the federation to facilitate the growth of this sport in provinces and clubs nationwide.
Concluding, he expressed gratitude to the technical staff and hoped that with divine assistance and the effort of athletes and coaches, Iran’s wheelchair basketball will add another golden page to the country’s sports achievements.
