According to public sources, this day was first introduced in 1382 (2003) by the initiative of the National Paralympic Committee and was gradually expanded to a week-long series of cultural, educational, and sports programs throughout the country targeting the development of the Paralympic movement and promoting empowerment, vitality, and self-confidence among veterans, the disabled, and the visually impaired.
With recognition from the President and the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 1393 (2014), was officially registered as National Paralympic Day in the Iranian calendar and has been celebrated nationally since 1394 (2015).
The week around this date features inclusive events attended by disabled athletes, people with disabilities, and the public, aiming to raise awareness about the Paralympic movement in Iran and inspire participation in Paralympic sports.
This observance is also recognized internationally as an exemplary initiative by the International Paralympic Committee, which has expressed appreciation for Iran’s efforts in establishing and promoting this occurrence.
