Dr. Nasiri: The Asian Women’s Sports Seminar—A Turning Point in Sports Diplomacy and Empowerment of Paralympic Women

Dr. Mojgan Nasiri, Vice President of the  Federation, stated in an interview with the Public Relations office: The Asian Women’s Sports Seminar not only focused on strengthening Asian cooperation but also emphasized empowering women through inclusive leadership.

Dr. Mojgan Nasiri highlighted the significance of holding the first-ever Asian Women’s Sports Seminar, noting: “This seminar was held with the support of the Asian Paralympic Committee and at the request of the Asian Women’s Sports Commission. Representatives from 27 Asian countries attended the event to discuss and exchange views on the transformative role of women in all areas of sports—including athletes, coaches, referees, managers, and sports leaders.”

She continued: “At this two-day seminar, I participated alongside Dr. Kazemipour, Vice President for Women’s Affairs of the National Paralympic Committee. The program included keynote speeches, case studies, and specialized panel discussions that explored a variety of topics, such as women’s participation in Paralympic sports, family and social support, pathways to leadership and coaching, structural and social challenges, and gender equity.”

Dr. Nasiri, emphasizing the importance of this event, said: “This seminar was a golden opportunity to strengthen sports diplomacy and develop regional cooperation. Efforts were also made to devise strategies for increasing women’s participation in Paralympic sports and to facilitate the exchange of scientific insights.”

Regarding Iran’s role, she added: “On the second day of the seminar, Dr. Kazemipour and I gave a joint presentation on the development of Paralympic women’s sports in Iran and the country’s achievements in increasing athlete participation and medals, enhancing women’s roles in management, coaching, refereeing, and major decision-making. Our presentation received special attention from the representatives of the Asian Paralympic Committee and participating countries, and we presented suggestions for the future development of women’s sports in Asia.”

Nasiri went on to say: “Additionally, on the sidelines of this seminar, a specialized session of the Asian Women’s Sports Committee was held, in which I took part as a committee member. The committee’s mission is to provide expert advice to the Asian Paralympic Committee for the comprehensive development of women’s sports and the promotion of gender equity on the continent.”

In conclusion, Dr. Nasiri expressed hope for the continuation of international support, stating: “Holding this seminar marks an important step and a turning point for the development of women’s sports in Asia. We hope to see even broader and more effective support from the Asian Paralympic Committee in the future.”
