Dr. Koohpayeh Zadeh emphasized the importance of the development of veterans and disabled sports, stating:
“Our federation oversees a wide variety of Paralympic and non-Paralympic sports. One of the important and medal-winning disciplines for Iran’s delegation in major international events is sitting volleyball. Our men’s team has been Paralympic, World, and Asian champions multiple times, while our women’s team has earned the title of Asian runner-up.”
He continued:
“Veterans and disabled sports remain largely unknown and have not yet been introduced to the public as much as other sports. We consider sports in this sector inspirational and generative. Therefore, we are seeking to cooperate with different organizations to support the development of veterans and disabled sports.”
Dr. Koohpayeh Zadeh added:
“In sitting volleyball, especially in the women’s category, with investment, our women will certainly become Asian champions and can stand alongside the men’s team as strong contenders in the world.”
The federation president said:
“The goal of this intersectoral cooperation and interaction is to develop sitting volleyball in collaboration with the Volleyball Federation. We hope active clubs in the volleyball league will also invest in sitting volleyball, a sport with a history of Asian and world championship titles.”
Continuing the meeting, Dr. Taghavi, President of the Volleyball Federation, congratulated the Veterans and Disabled Sports Federation and the Sitting Volleyball Association on their many achievements in Asia and the world. He stated:
“This is the home of all volleyball players. We do not see ourselves apart from sitting volleyball and are ready to support sitting volleyball in various fields and help its growth and development, especially at the league level.”
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to form a working group to draft a cooperation memorandum between the two federations, which will be signed in the coming days
