Dr. Kouhpaye Zadeh, President of the Federation of IRISFD, emphasized the importance of establishing the Virtus competition committee for advancing sports among individuals with intellectual disabilities.
According to the Public Relations of the Federation, Dr. Kouhpaye Zadeh stated that alongside Paralympic and non-Paralympic disciplines, sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities also exist. With proper support, the federation aims to prepare athletes in this category for participation in the 2028 Paralympic Games, enabling them to become medalists for the national team.
He further explained that prior to the Los Angeles Paralympic Games, Virtus competitions, which are dedicated to athletes with intellectual disabilities, are planned. The federation is striving to establish a dedicated committee for these competitions within the Ministry of Sports and Youth, with the support of the Minister. This committee will oversee the organization of the events, monitor athlete preparation, and evaluate competitors’ performance.
Dr. Kouhpaye Zadeh highlighted that forming this committee is crucial for the quantitative and qualitative development of sports in this field. With the backing of officials, the federation can enhance the readiness of athletes with intellectual disabilities and confidently send them to competitions, enabling these national athletes to join the ranks of the federation’s and country’s distinguished champions.
