Oral History Compilation of Disabled and Injured Sports: A Necessity

A meeting on compiling the oral history of champions in disabled and injured sports was held today.

According to the Public Relations of the Federation, a session was convened with the presence of Dr. Kouhpaye Zadeh, President of the Federation; Dr. Nasiri and Mandegar Fard, Vice Presidents; Seyed Bagheri, Advisor; and Keshavarz Nouri, Cultural Director, to discuss the creation of an oral history of the champions and notable figures in disabled and injured sports.

In the meeting, Dr. Kouhpaye Zadeh emphasized the importance of recording and preserving the oral history of champions in this field. He stated: “Disabled and injured sports have witnessed the presence of medalists and distinguished athletes who, beyond the Paralympic Games, have achieved various honors in the Para-Asian, world, and even national competitions. Today, as these veterans have stepped away from professional sports, compiling their oral histories can help introduce them to society.”

He added: “Besides the medalists, our provincial committees and their leaders who have served over the years can be introduced through this oral history to familiarize the community with the environment in which our athletes and champions began their careers. It will clarify where our committees started and their current status, as well as which champions have emerged from these provincial committees over the years.”

Dr. Kouhpaye Zadeh also proposed designing software to register information about champions and provincial committees. He explained: “It is not necessary to collect all information in person. Simple questionnaires can be prepared and sent to athletes and provincial committee officials to gather initial data, which can then be edited and processed.”

The Federation President said: “A system can be designed to record the records of champions and veterans in this sport, collecting data and encouraging athletes to register their albums and memories by organizing festivals and other incentives.”

He concluded: “This initiative can be implemented as a short-term program with the cooperation of provincial committee officials. It is a valuable opportunity to introduce the champions of disabled and injured sports to society.”

During the meeting, Seyed Bagheri, the Federation President’s advisor, stated: “By compiling the oral history of provincial committees, we can create a turning point in introducing this sport. Showing how many disciplines and champions each provincial committee started with, and the number of medalists per province, can provide new insights about disabled and injured sports to the community.”

The advisor added: “After completing the provincial committees phase, in the second phase of this history, we can introduce Paralympic and Para-Asian champions.”

At the end of the session, it was decided that an information collection plan will be developed and, after approval by the members, sent to the provincial committees.
