According to the Public Relations of the Federation and the report from the Ministry of Sports and Youth news agency, since last year (2024), administrative and legal efforts have been made in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Youth to connect the country’s sports federations to the Free Access to Information System and to implement the law on publication and free access to information.
Federations play a central role in professional sports as these bodies are responsible for organizing and developing specialized sports, drafting regulations and oversight, representing the country in international forums, promoting public health and sports culture, attracting financial resources, supporting athletes, and more.
Currently, out of a total of 52 sports federations, 40 have joined the Free Access to Information System, allowing the public to submit information requests to these institutions. Sports federations and associations are considered non-governmental public institutions and, according to regulations, fall under the scope of the law. They are obligated not only to publish their information publicly but also to respond to public requests for access to information.
The types of information that can be requested from sports federations and associations include topics such as the amount of budget received from the government or public institutions, annual financial statements, how budgets are spent on training camps, delegations, contracts, construction, the federation’s or association’s statutes, board members and their records, duties of committees and departments, the process of appointing or electing managers and officials, amounts of bonuses, salaries or allowances paid, calendars of sports and educational events, disciplinary committee rulings (if not confidential), complaint and grievance handling procedures, lists of sports facilities under the federation’s control, tariffs and fees charged for using facilities, and more. According to the law, information that is confidential, personal, or related to commercial and competitive secrets is exempt from access.
The names of the 40 active sports federations and associations are accessible and viewable on the main page of the system under the “List of Organizations” section within the affiliated organizations of the Ministry of Sports and Youth. All citizens and sports enthusiasts, including athletes, media professionals and journalists, researchers, and students in sports fields, can register and track their information requests from these institutions through the national system at iranfoia.ir.
