Dr. Donyamali emphasized that the federation’s current budget is limited, and high expectations cannot be set; however, despite these constraints, the athletes’ performance is highly commendable.
He added that more meetings are needed to improve the federation’s structure and that special attention should be given to the unique needs of Paralympic athletes and their families, as their expenses and efforts are greater. The Minister stressed that current facilities are insufficient and that a change in approach is necessary to develop sports disciplines and increase medal counts.
Dr. Donyamali also underscored the need for greater support for female Paralympic sports, noting that women hold a higher status in sacred law and that a special supportive outlook toward female athletes is required. He stated that if financial issues are not resolved, expectations must be lowered, and simultaneously, both grassroots and elite sports for the disabled should be advanced together.
The Minister pointed to the commendable successes of Iranian disabled athletes in major arenas and emphasized the necessity of rejuvenating teams such as sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball to maintain good results while injecting young talent into the teams.
In conclusion, Dr. Donyamali stressed the importance of finding strong sponsors for disabled sports within the framework of social responsibility, stating that with proper funding, greater medal achievements can be expected. He also reminded that the Ministry of Sports’ mission is not only sports development but also a humanitarian perspective, and all efforts should lead to the honor of disabled athletes. The Ministry will dedicate all its capacity this year to ensure the success of Iranian athletes in international competitions.
