Meeting Held Between Officials of IRISFD and Islamic Parliament Representative
According to the Public Relations Department of IRISFD, prior to the meeting, Dr. Mahmoudi, accompanied by federation officials, paid tribute to the lofty status of martyrs by visiting the federation’s Unknown Martyr Memorial. He then toured the sports halls, inspected the federation’s facilities, and held discussions with national team athletes and coaching staff in para-weightlifting, men’s sitting volleyball, para-archery, and other disciplines.
During the meeting, Dr. Koohpayehzadeh, President of the Federation, stated:
*”Our federation oversees nine Paralympic and seven non-Paralympic sports, with approximately 70% of Iran’s Paralympic disciplines active under our umbrella. In preparation for the upcoming Nagoya Asian Para Games and youth competitions, 24 national teams are in monthly training camps to ensure they are fully prepared for the events.”*
He further emphasized:
*”For three sports—archery, athletics, and seven-a-side football—we require open-air sports fields. Although the Ministry of Sports and Youth pledged to allocate Field No. 1 of Tehran’s Shirudi Complex to our federation, this has yet to materialize.”*
Dr. Koohpayehzadeh added:
“Our federation is honored by the presence and legacy of our nation’s proud veterans, including today’s defenders of holy shrines and border security who compete in our national teams. Given the importance of our federation, we have strived to incorporate prominent sports figures into our coaching staff, ensuring athletes are trained with the latest technical expertise for international competitions.”
The federation president noted:
“Through their participation in sports and achievements on major international stages, veteran and disabled athletes have demonstrated remarkable determination. Earlier this year, our young para-swimming and para-athletics athletes secured medals in two major events, highlighting their immense potential. We hope that with the support of the Islamic Parliament, we can continue paving the way for their success.”
Dr. Mahmoudi, the Parliament representative, remarked:
“I am deeply passionate about sports for veterans and individuals with disabilities, and we must focus on empowering this sector. Short-, medium-, and long-term plans are essential to properly develop these sports. The Islamic Parliament and other institutions, such as the Tehran Municipality, can provide vital support to advance these efforts and facilitate athletes’ progress. With proper planning, we can create an environment where our national para-athletes continue to shine.”
